We all make different choices in life and the choices surrounding a funeral are no different. For some, great comfort can be found in a familiar poem, prayer or hymn. I'm happy to weave these into the ceremony, along with other semi-religious or non-religious words of comfort, personal music choices and individual reflections and to offer suggestions which might represent your feelings at the time and respect individual beliefs.
I will ensure that the words and sentiments expressed are reflective of your emotions and wishes as well as the person you have lost, to create a ceremony full of meaning and heart.
How it Works & Fees
Funerals
It can be difficult to find the right words to say goodbye. As a professionally trained Funeral Celebrant I will help to create a truly personal funeral ceremony that is exactly as you wish it to be.
Not everyone wants the same type of funeral and I will meet with you to discuss the ceremony fully.
You will be able to check the ceremony content beforehand and I will offer you a full text of the ceremony to keep afterwards.
The ceremony will capture the very essence of the person and tell the story of the life that has been lived.
Ashes
Perhaps you are considering scattering or interring ashes, and wish to mark the occasion meaningfully. I will work with you in saying your final goodbyes.
There are some local restrictions and guidelines for scattering of Ashes in an ethical and ecological way, and it's quite straightforward to find these out and come up with good solutions. There are also options to divide Ashes or to use some in memorial items.
Memorials
A Memorial Ceremony can be a wonderful way to remember and celebrate a life. Perhaps some time has passed, or perhaps not everyone who wanted was able to attend the funeral.
Memorial events can take many forms, from family reflections to something of a party. If you have a planner, I am happy to work with them in realising your wishes.
Standards
I have a Level 3 Diploma in Funeral Celebrancy (RQF), and am currently undertaking the new Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Funeral Celebrancy, the highest possible qualification in Celebrancy in the UK. This means that I have been rigorously assessed for my skill and suitability as a Funeral Celebrant, and am able to create and deliver an appropriate and unique funeral ceremony with sensitivity and empathy. I'm lucky that I trained with the best: Civil Ceremonies Ltd, who have pioneered the Celebrant movement in the UK.
I will meet with you either in person or on Google Teams or Zoom to discuss your wishes, your choices, and can offer suggestions for apt readings, poetry and music you may wish to include. I will gather details about the story of the life that has passed in order to create a truly personalised service that reflects their thoughts and beliefs. I will send you a draft script to check details, and so that you will know what is to happen and what will be said on the day.
Working With A Funeral Director
If you would like me to be your Celebrant and you already have a Funeral Director, simply pass my details onto them and I will work with their team to deliver the funeral. Funeral Directors are used to working with a variety of religious, semi-religious and non-religious Celebrants.
DIY Funerals
If you have discovered what to do, I am able to be a Celebrant at your DIY funeral. I know a few things about the funeral industry outside my role as a Celebrant, but would be unable to make arrangements - I would advise if I thought a Funeral Director is needed - I know a couple of excellent FDs who would follow your DIY wishes.
Ashes

Natural Burials
Entirely possible and absolutely beautiful. There are many managed sites in the UK for this option.

Fees
To write and deliver a Funeral service in the London area my fee starts at £250.
Scattering or Internment of Ashes service is usually £100-£150.
Memorial service is usually £250.

When someone dies, the Registrar or Funeral Director will tell you aboout the Government service Tell Us Once where you can inform most Government organisations about the death all in one go. Less well known is Life Ledger. This is not a Government service, but a free to use service to inform all the other businesses and accounts a person may have - utilities, banks, catalogues, insurers, and so on.
I have no connection with Life Ledger and they don't pay me! I just know of them, have done their celebrant training, and think it's a really useful and timesaving instead of making all those endless phonecalls. I recommend LifeLedger to clients who have told me it's saved them a lot of time and hassle.
